Microplastic Particles Now Discoverable in Human Organs

9/8/2020

Microplastic and nanoplastic particles are now discoverable in human organs thanks to a new technique.  Microplastics have polluted the entire planet, from Arctic snow and Alpine soils to the deepest oceans. People are also known to consume them via food and water, and to breathe them in, but the potential impact on human health is not yet known. The researchers expect to find the particles in human organs and have identified chemical traces of plastic in tissue. But isolating and characterising such minuscule fragments is difficult, and contamination from plastics in the air is also a challenge. - Guardian

This article made me really think about how much plastic is really on and inside the earth. Since they are not biodegradable, the plastic just sits in the soil or wherever it is and doesn't breakdown. I am hoping that sometime in the future, the world will have more of an idea of how to make more biodegradable products like straws, cups, plastics, ect. We as people need to be more cautious of where we are getting these plastics and where we are putting them after we are done using them. Recycle !!!!

This article is a great example of how hazards to the environment can directly affect humans. There is so much plastic waste that it not only pollutes the air, water and soil, but also pollutes our bodies. It all comes full circle since we are the ones producing and using the plastic. Sustainability definitely needs to be a greater focus.
